Well February has been a bad month for playing football matches, due to the weather. We've had storms Ciara, Dennis, Jorge and as I write this, it's snowing!
But even so, I've had lots of training sessions still and also a ski trip. So here's a review of my month...
On 1st February I played in a 9-hole competition which I won 🏆 for the 1st time since starting my group sessions at The Essex Golf & Country Club. I played the best round ever and was really pleased to come in with the lowest score after handicaps had been taken off. Sadly I missed my next lesson due to a sore wrist but am back at it now.
We've only played 1 match this month due to bad weather, which we lost, but the team played well and we had some bad decisions against us. See my match report here. We've still trained every week as we have a 3G pitch for training, which is great.
I tried out another new Goalkeeper session in February as I'm always looking to see if there's anything that's closer and/or better than I currently do. It's also a good way to build confidence in 1-off trial situations and to compare yourself to other goalkeepers of similar ages. The session I tried was a great location, great facilities, but sadly low-tempo and not right for me. So I still have my regular Tuesday & Friday Academy sessions, plus team training on Thursdays and an occasional Monday goalkeeping session too.
My MRFA Academy has arranged 3 fixtures recently, which has been great to test ourselves against other academies. We travelled down to Purfleet to play Finesse Academy which we lost 4-3, but it was a competitive match and I personally did well in areas where I am normally weak. Then we played vs Ballers Academy which we lost 3-1 and again I was pleased with my overall performance even though I made a mistake for 1 of their goals. But we have to accept these and move on during the game and keep performing. Finally we have a match against Spurs Academy at the Tottenham Hotspur Training Ground in early March which I am so excited about. You can see more on that by following me on Instagram or wait until next month's blog here.
I've had a school disco, a sleep-over, a friends party, played Dodgeball, went skiing for 4-days (watch the video here) and went to watch one of my Goalkeeper Coaches play in a cup match that went to extra time & penalties, which they won ! Watch my VLOG from that week to see Chris get kicked in the head and play on to save the winning penalty... What a keeper!
So, that's it! What a busy month (again!). Let's hope March can be even better 💪🏼
